Martha’s Vineyard will play host to some of Nashville’s finest songwriters and artists September 11-14, 2014, when New England to Nashville (NETN) presents the 4TH Annual Martha’s Vineyard Songwriters Festival. The Festival will feature a concert on Saturday, September 13, 8:30pm at Flatbread Company in Edgartown. “Behind the Curtain with Nashville Hit-Makers” will showcase acclaimed writers Jim McCormick, Jason Blume, Marty Dodson and Clay Mills, who have penned hits for top contemporary country artists like Kenny Chesney, Darius Rucker, The Oak Ridge Boys, Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum. They will be joined by emerging Nashville artists Lance Carpenter, Sarah Kirkland, Jason Gregory, Allen Shervelle, The Wheeler Sisters, Jesse Terry (a Berklee College Of Music alum) and New England native Casey Derhak. Tickets ($20 each show) are availableHERE.
The festival will also feature a weekend workshop in West Tisbury focusing on both the art and business of commercial songwriting. A full schedule of the weekend workshop can be found HERE. Prior to their visit to Martha’s Vineyard, on Friday, September 12, the hit writers and emerging artists will perform at the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston. Jim McCormick, who recently wrote #1 songs for Brantley Gilbert and Jason Aldean, said, “I’m really excited to be a part of this event and to get to play with some of the most talented people I know. I think anyone who loves great music will enjoy these performances. You’ll get a glimpse at the future of Nashville, hear number one hits and the stories behind them, and get a sneak preview of songs that you might hear on the radio a couple of years from now.”
Aspiring songwriters are invited to attend a four day Songwriters Workshop in West Tisbury beginning on Thursday, September 11 and concluding Sunday at 4PM. The workshop will feature instruction by Jason Blume and the other hit writers will be participating in instruction throughout the week.
Jason Blume is one of the few songwriters to ever achieve the distinction of having his songs on Billboard’s Pop, R&B, and Country charts – all at the same time. Blume’s songs are on Grammy-nominated albums and have sold more than 50 million copies! Artists who have recorded Jason’s songs include Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, Jesse McCartney, and country stars including Collin Raye, John Berry, and the Oak Ridge Boys. He received a BMI award for garnering more than one million radio airplays. On television and in films, his songs have been heard on Scrubs, Friday Night Lights, Fame, Dangerous Minds, Disney’s Kim Possible, Emmy Award winners and nominees, The Miss America Pageant, Guiding Light, and more. Jason is also the author of three best-selling songwriting books, all published by Billboard Books. He has presented songwriting workshops and keynote speeches on cruise ships and in countries including Ireland, Norway, Bermuda, Jamaica, Canada and Mexico, as well as in more than 40 U.S. cities.
Workshop attendees are also invited to a casual BBQ/Guitar Pull the night before (Friday, September 12) in West Tisbury where they will have the opportunity to meet and interact with both the established and emerging artists.
A portion of the proceeds from the Martha’s Vineyard Songwriter’s Festival will be donated to two non-profit organizations benefitting children: Alex’s Place (http://www.alexsplace.net) created through the efforts of The Alexandra Gagnon Foundation to provide safe, enlightening, educational, and entertaining experiences for teens on Martha’s Vineyard; and the Alliance For Children Foundation (AFC) (www.afcfoundation.org) a Massachusetts-based international relief organization devoted to improving the physical and emotional well- being of orphaned and at-risk children worldwide. The AFC was founded by West Tisbury Resident Filis Casey.
The 2014 Martha’s Vineyard Songwriters Festival is presented by the recently-founded group, New England to Nashville (NETN). Since it’s conception in 2012, NETN has grown to over 100 songwriters and artists based in or connected to New England whose artistic efforts are focused on the Nashville music scene. NETN welcomes various Nashville songwriters and artists throughout the year for workshops and performances.
New for The WordShop in 2014!
My website www.karenchronister.com is finished and I’d love if you’d stop by and tell me what you think! I’m currently looking for short-term projects: Website Building (priced per page), Editing, and Adobe Design (posters, magazine/promotional design and content), and Marketing Consultant/Specialist work for businesses whose marketing needs fit in half-day/1-2 day per week increments, whether short-term or long term. I currently have clients in the Travel & Tourism, Building/Restoration, Entertainment, and Health Industries. Marketing is content focused these days, and as a writer, this is where I help you find your voice–or turn up the volume! I love my clients and I love marketing, not because I’m helping them sell something, but because they have a dream (their business) and people need or want their product or service. I don’t believe in convincing someone they need your product or service, but I believe in finding, targeting and advocating to those who do. That’s the fun, fulfilling part for me! If you think we might be a great fit, email me at email@example.com
**Look for monthly specials! Here’s my January Special: the first 3 website clients I consult with who make a deposit will receive a select Mojo theme at 75% off (that’s a $38 savings).
Happy New Year!
